ALKALOID: first German metal band live in Egypt

Progressive German death metal band ALKLOID had their first show in Cairo, Egypt last Thursday. It was also be the first time a Death Metal Band from Germany performed in Egypt ever. Despite their philosophically controvertial approach to lyrics, the band decided to pick Cairo as one of the places to give their live premiere.

Drummer Hannes Grossmann (Blotted Science, Ex-Obscura, Ex-Necrophagist) explains:

“We think that Metal is definately a global phenomenon. ALKALOIDS music to us is something which hopefully could enable people to transcend cultural and religious barriers, to connect people from all areas of the world by using one unique language – which is made by tones and rhythm. We also think that metal has to be brought to those people who are still hungry for hearing new and exciting things. For doing so, Cairo is the perfect place. We definately look forward to play and we’re are very proud to be the first metal band from Germany to perform live in Egypt.”

ALKALOID was also shooting their first video in Cairo with Egyptian artist and musician Nader Sadek.

Obscura finish production of new album

“We are proud to announce that we finished the production of our new album! The production was full of extremes in so many ways. All band members were working at their limit to make this album the best possible.

Thanks to the mix and mastering qualities of our long time producer V. Santura our songs became even more powerful than I could have imagined. You can be looking forward to very fast and Obscura typical up tempo tracks but also some very new sounds with very detailed, atmospheric, dark and heavy parts.” – Linus Klausenitzer

Obscura enter the studio

Obscura hit the studio to record their fourth album.

On Facebook you can see a picture gallery that will always be updated to give insights to the recording progress of the album:
Obscura Album #4

Obscura guitarist Tom Geldschläger:

“We´re less than a month away from entering the studio to record the fourthObscura album, the first one for Sebastian Lanser, Linus Klausenitzer and myself. Ever since the new line-up has been announced, each of us has gotten a lot of questions about how the new material will sound, especially wether it´s gonna be more straight-up death metal, more prog, or something else entirely… So here´s our answer: it´s all of the above!

Steffen and Linus have penned the majority of the material so far. There´re shorter, catchier tunes based on Steffen´s signature riffing and lots of blast beats, which we expect to work great during the upcoming live shows. But the arrangements, which we all worked on together, also made sure there´s more dynamics, more intricacies like polymetrics, different layers of guitars and some new approaches to soloing.

I on the other hand, made it my mission to contribute something that builds on and extends the sound of the band´s previous album : very complex, dark and (for lack of better words) “prog”. The result is the longest and compositionally most ambitious song in the history of the band – a 15 minute epic featuring (another first for the band) a string section and my signature fretless guitar work. We´re definitely excited to finally enter the studio and share the new music with all of you – stay tuned for more updates during the coming weeks!”

Obscura announce new album

German progressive metal masters Obscura will enter Dreamsound Studios this April to begin recording drums for their highly anticipated new album and first full-length in over four years. The band will work once again with long time producer V. Santura (Cosmogenesis, Omnivium). The album will see a late 2015 release via Relapse Records. Guitarist / vocalist Steffen Kummerer commented on the upcoming material:

“We are all pleased with the new material which pairs the songwriting, technicality and arrangements of our previous albums with the creative input of members Linus Klausenitzer, Tom “Fountainhead” Geldschläger and Sebastian Lanser, while keeping our trademark prog riffing across the fusion and death metal landscape that makes Obscura sound unique. This album sees Obscura move a step further.”

While the band prepares the upcoming recordings a digital tablature book of their critically acclaimed record Omnivium is available for pay-what-you-want download at the band’s website www.realmofobscura.com. The book contains 368 pages in total, including tabs for all lead and rhythm guitars, transcribed live versions of each solo and arrangements for two guitars plus liner notes for each song. It can be purchased directly here. The band has also uploaded a video featuring Steffen Kummerer showcasing his custom RAN Guitars here.

More details on the band’s upcoming album will be announced shortly.
