Obscura announce new album

German progressive metal masters Obscura will enter Dreamsound Studios this April to begin recording drums for their highly anticipated new album and first full-length in over four years. The band will work once again with long time producer V. Santura (Cosmogenesis, Omnivium). The album will see a late 2015 release via Relapse Records. Guitarist / vocalist Steffen Kummerer commented on the upcoming material:

“We are all pleased with the new material which pairs the songwriting, technicality and arrangements of our previous albums with the creative input of members Linus Klausenitzer, Tom “Fountainhead” Geldschläger and Sebastian Lanser, while keeping our trademark prog riffing across the fusion and death metal landscape that makes Obscura sound unique. This album sees Obscura move a step further.”

While the band prepares the upcoming recordings a digital tablature book of their critically acclaimed record Omnivium is available for pay-what-you-want download at the band’s website www.realmofobscura.com. The book contains 368 pages in total, including tabs for all lead and rhythm guitars, transcribed live versions of each solo and arrangements for two guitars plus liner notes for each song. It can be purchased directly here. The band has also uploaded a video featuring Steffen Kummerer showcasing his custom RAN Guitars here.

More details on the band’s upcoming album will be announced shortly.

Obscura has a new lineup

Obscura has new band members:

  • German fretless guitarist Tom Geldschläger aka “Fountainhead” – Linus Klausenitzer recorded two tracks for his solo record earlier this year.
  • Sebastian Lanser on drums – also known from “Panzerballett”

Obscura is writing on new songs to record a new album in 2015 and hit the road again. Shows in Isreal and Slovenia are already confirmed.

The new lineup is:

Steffen Kummerer – lead guitars & vocals
Tom Geldschläger – lead guitars
Linus Klausenitzer – bass
Sebastian Lanser – drums

Bass Recordings for Alkaloid

Linus Klausenitzer hits the studio to record the bass tracks for the upcoming debut album of Alkaloid. In contrast to his bass playing in Obscura and Noneuclid he uses a mix of fretless and fretted bass sounds across the hole album. To accomplish this it uses different sounds and basses: “Ibanez ATK”, a custom 7 string fretless “Ibanez BTB7” and the hybrid bass “Ibanez Ashula”.

The material by main songwriter Hannes Grossmann and Florian Magnus Maier is planned to come out in spring 2015.

Alkaloid – new band

Linus Klausenitzer is part of a new band with members of Aborted, Noneuclid and ex-Obscura.

After his departure from German technical death metallers OBSCURA, drummer Hannes Grossmann (also known for his work with BLOTTED SCIENCE and NECROPHAGIST) joined forces with some of his former bandmates in a new project called ALKALOID. In addition to Grossmann, the new group features Christian Muenzner (ex-OBSCURA, NECROPHAGIST, SPAWN OF POSSESSION) and Danny Tunker (ABORTED, ex-GOD DETHRONED) on guitar and Linus Klausenitzer on bass. The band’s frontman is classical composer Florian Magnus Maier (a.k.a. Morean) on vocals and guitar, also known for his orchestral collaboration with Devin Townsend, PARADISE LOST and his work with DARK FORTRESS and NONEUCLID.

Comments Grossmann: “As sad as things have turned out with OBSCURA, I’m really happy that the songs Christian Muenzner and I had initially written for their next record will find a new home in ALKALOID. However, I don’t see ALKALOID as a ‘tech-death’ band, because we just aren’t. The music is definitely prog, but in terms of dynamics, song structures, harmonics and rhythms, it’s just too diverse to be put into a small sub-genre.

“The band was brought to life in 2012 by myself and Florian Magnus Maier, who is by far the best composer I ever worked with. His band NONEUCLID had a big impact on the last OBSCURA record, ‘Omnivium’, on which I contributed the vast majority of the music and arranged all the songs. Generally, this is the sort of music we would like to continue with ALKALOID, but make it sound more colorful, more vibrant and way catchier. I’m also happy to have some of my dearest friends on board, such as Christian Muenzner — we make music together for more than 10 years — and Linus Klausenitzer, who is one of my favorite bass players and did a great job on my solo record, ‘The Radial Covenant’. Last but not least, we have Danny Tunker as third guitar player, who is just one of the best players I’ve ever seen. Once we toured with him — he was playing for SPAWN OF POSSESSION — I saw him learning two OBSCURA songs in about an hour, playing them flawless. Never seen a talent like him before.”

Linus Klausenitzer will be using a mix of his Ibanez basses: Ibanez ATK, Ibanez Ashula, Ibanez BTB7

Noneuclid to release Metatheosis in May 2014

Finnish specialty label Blood Music will introduce the global audience to NONEUCLID, one of extreme metal’s most fascinating entities. The band features the considerable talents of members of TRIPTYKONOBSCURATHULCANDRA and DARK FORTRESS, and yet manages to become even more than the sum of its parts.

Blood Music will release NONEUCLID‘s second studio album, “Metatheosis”, on May 6 on digipack CD with 12-page booklet (limited to 1,000 copies) and gatefold 2xLP limited to 250 copies with 100 on ebony and 150 on half-ebony/half-crystal vinyl.

Preorders will launch on March 5 at this location.

“Metatheosis” takes NONEUCLID‘s unique musical amalgam several steps further in all respects. Entirely produced by the bandmembers themselves, the album offers a wide spectrum of colors, ranging from brutal death thrash to sludgy doom, symphonic prog-death with an edge, hallucinatory rock, and epic polymetric insanity.
